This is a great technique I learned from a physical trainer that lived a block down from me. He said a great way to strengthen the deltoids and trapezoids is through resistance training. Because these muscles cause the arm to extend laterally, this training is easily done against gravity.
My neighbor, being a very conservative man, told me there was no need for fancy equipment or anything. He said the exercise could easily be accomplished by taking a potato sack and holding it straight out to the sides. When done correctly this stance will make you look like you are about to be mounted on a cross, except with potato sacks in your hand.
This is a four week training routine. And for maximum efficiency, weight loss and muscle gain you will do well to follow the instructions to the letter.
Week 1
Grab a 5 pound potato sack in each hand.
Hold them out to your sides for 10 minutes.
Repeat exercise each day.
Week 2
Grab a 10 pound potato sack in each hand.
Hold them out for 10 to 15 minutes.
Repeat the exercise each day.
Week 3
Grab a 15 pound potato sack, you know the big ones, in each hand.
Hold them out to your side for 15 to 20 minutes, or as long as possible.
Repeat each day.
Week 4
Now take a potato and put it in the sack.
Now I feel like when he told me this there was some sort of deeper message he was trying to convey, but I haven’t figured it out. So if you have any thoughts on this blog leave a comment below.
